Tyrone Cantey was elected to the Havelock Board of Commissioners in 2022. His vision for the community is to grow from within and plan for tomorrow’s expansion. He believes that focusing on the infrastructure of Havelock will improve the quality of life for the community and draw more businesses into the city.
Commissioner Cantey relocated to Havelock in 2007, via the military from Japan. He, along with his wife Barbara and four children, took up residency in Havelock and now call it “home.” Cantey graduated Cum Laude from Park University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management/Human Resources in May 2014. After 30 years of faithful service in the United States Marine Corps, his retirement ceremony was held aboard Cherry Point.
Tyrone has been married for 22 years to his wife, Barbara. They have 3 sons, Damien, Emmanuel, and Nathaniel; 1 daughter, Audrina; and 1 daughter-in-law, Alexis. Tyrone is an active member of New Beginnings Ministry of Faith Church, where he has served as Deacon since 2009. Tyrone is a Band Parent and serves as a part of the Havelock Marching Rams Pit Crew. He also serves as the Secretary and Scholarship Director for Chapter 36 Montford Point Marines.
