Karen Lewis, Commissioner
Biography
Karen Lewis was elected to the Havelock Board of Commissioners in 2011 and 2015. She was appointed to fill a vacancy on September 14, 2020. Her interests include the growth of Havelock, the welfare of local businesses, and the youth of our great city.
Karen moved to Havelock in January 1981 when the Marine Corps transferred her husband, George, to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point. She has called Havelock home ever since and has worked in the food industry and fulfilled her dream of owning and operating her own restaurant. This experience provided incite and understanding of local businesses.
Public Service
Over the years, she has been very active in Havelock Youth Sports serving several administrative roles within Pop Warner Football, Havelock Youth Soccer League, Havelock Little League Baseball and Havelock Babe Ruth Baseball. Karen has also served on the Appearance Commission, Planning Board, Recreation Advisory Board, Senior Advisory Board and the Volunteer Fire/Rescue Committee .
Board Representation
Commissioner Karen Lewis is currently appointed as the Board of Commissioners representative to the Appearance Commission, the Local Firemen's Relief Fund and the Traffic Committee.
Personal Life
Karen has been married for 43 years with 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandsons. She is a longtime member of Community Baptist Church in Newport, NC. She serves by teaching Sunday School, as an Awana Clubs Leader, in addition to heading up the hospitality team.
